Located on Bridge Road in the heart of Richmond, On The Spot Drycleaners has been an industry pioneer since 1948.
Originally founded by Tom McGrath after WWII, the business flourished with its (at the time) innovative approach of doing all the cleaning on site, ‘On The Spot’.
The business would continue to innovate by being the first to import a carousel from the USA for dry cleaning use in Australia.
In 1986 the Vamvakitis family purchased the business from Mr. McGrath and have continued the tradition by being the first dry cleaner in Australia to use a BÖWE environment consorba machine, introduce a 24 hr drycleaning valet pick-up/ drop off door, offer Wet Cleaning and own and operate a Sankosha shirt machine.
Passionate about supporting community sports, On The Spot Dry cleaners launders the uniforms of local cricket, soccer and football teams.
In the lead up to the Richmond Tigers’ win of the 2017 AFL premiership, On The Spot worked in collaboration with City of Yarra who commissioned the Tiger Mural located on the corner of Bridge Road and Fraser Street, Richmond.
Still family owned and managed to this day, On The Spot are a second-generation dry cleaner with over 70 years of experience. George and Tony Vamvakitis continue to ensure both personal and commercial dry-cleaning orders are delivered with ‘quality beyond your expectations.’
To celebrate our 75th anniversary, we’ve created a video we hope captures the spirit of what we do and our great love for our home suburb, Richmond!
